Lewis Dawson, a Junior, of Tusca¬
loosa, Ala., was elected Manager of
the 1916 football team at a meeting
of the Athletic Association last
Wednesday.. Mr. Dawson was Asso¬
ciate Manager of the 1916 team. He
Is a member of the PI Kappa Alpha
Fraternity and of the Franklin Lit¬
erary Society.
Rqy Smart,* of Clayton, Ala., and
Arthur Carlisle, of Birmingham, both
Sophomores, were elected Junior
Managers. They will assist Mr. Daw¬
son next fall.
Lee Blackwelder, of Birmingham,
and W. T. Tennant, of Roanoke, Ala.,
both Juniors, were elected Junior
Baseball Managers for the team this
Spring.

EMERGENCY FUND COLLECTIONS
NET COLLEGE ABOUT $2,750
Approximately $2,760 has been
turned Into the treasury of Howard
College from churches and individu¬
als of Alabama as a result of the
emergency fund campaign. Some¬
thing. like $1,000 more is expected
within the next sixty days, the
money having already been collected
In some instances, but not yet for¬
warded to the college. It is possible
that the total fund may be run up to
nearly $6,000 by June 1.
A campaign for the emergency
fund waa opened soon after the meet¬
ing of the 8tate Baptist convention,
at Huntsville, in Novembdf, the
money collected to be used In apply¬
ing to pressing obligations. Tjhe
emergency fund Is distinct from reg¬
ular contributions to the college.

"We wanted to start the tourna¬
ment next Monday, but some of the
players will be away on the Glee
Club trip, and playing must be de¬
layed a week," said E. L. Ford, Man¬
ager of Tennis. The one week will
give the fellows more time for prac¬
tice.
"It. is certain that the winners of
the tournament will meet the teams
from Birmingham College and South¬
ern University. We hope to arrange
for gnmea with other colleges."
Howard has not engaged In Inter¬
collegiate tennis since 1914, when
Osrnett Harris, the singles champion,
and Joe Duke and Robert Robinson,
the doubles champions, defeated
player* from Birmingham College.
Lest year Garnett Harris won the
singles and Elmer Ford and Louis
Leftwlch won the doubles. No col¬
lege teams were played.
TRACK PRELIMINARY IS SET
FOR EAST LAKE PARK, APR. 1
Team to Oppose Birmingham College

of four engagements in Northwest
Alabama. The club will . sing- at
Haleyville Friday night and at Jas¬
per Saturday night.
At Haleyville the concert will be
under the auspices of the Ladles Aid
Society of the Baptist church. The
Florence concert will be under the
management of the Florence Normal
School. Auxiliary organizations of
the Russellville Baptist church will
have charge of the Russellville en¬
gagement, while the Baptist Baraca
Class will direct

Selection of a track and Sold team
to be sent against that of Birming¬
ham College April 12 will be made
at a preliminary meet at East Lake
Park April 1. Representatives for
ten events will be chosen.
Robert Robinson, track coach, will
have charge of preliminary practice,
which began last week.
The inter-collegiate meet will be
held at Bast Park, at Fifth Avenue
and Seventeenth Street. The follow¬
ing events bars been scheduled:

mile run; 220-yard hurdles; ld-

Southwestern Presbyterian Univers¬
ity, of Tennessee, with reference to a
probable football game between the
two schools at Clarksville, Tenn.,
next season. Eugene L. Caton, Di¬
rector of Athletics, said be was hope¬
ful of getting the date, as everything
except details was ' virtually agreed
upon.

President James M. Shelburne was
expected to return to college today
from Nashville, where be went last
week to attend the sessions of the
Educational Committee of the South¬
ern Baptist Convention. The pur¬
pose of the annual meeting of this
committee is to draw the Baptist col¬
leges of the 8outh closer together and
effect a closer co-operation.
President Shelburne left Birming¬
ham last Thursday, going by way of
Fort Payne, Ala., where he spoke to
those attending a Baptist Preachers'
School, then in session there.
