Sudduth Is Speaker
For Founders’ Day

Each year the Alpha Phi Omega,
service fraternity sponsors an ugly
man contest.
Each organisation on the cam¬
pus will promote the campaigns
for his candidate. Rallies and
skits will hold the limelight,
along with the contestants pic¬
tures which will be on display
on the bulletin board in Main.
The sororities will furnish pub¬
licity posters for the entire cam¬
paign.
Different individuals in each or¬
ganization will be appointed to col¬
lect the money for the votes, each
of which is one cent A large con¬
tainer for the collection of the votes
will be placed by the pictures of
the contestants.
The profits will be given to the
March of Dimes campaign of the
National Foundation for Infantile
Paralysis.
The organization whose candidate
collects the most money will be
declared winner of the title.
Last year over $400 wa cleared
in the campus drive.
Dr. Sudduth . . .
Dr. Solon B. Sudduth, director of the physical education
department of Peabody College in Nashville, is slated to be
the featured speaker February 1, for the Founders’ Day pro¬
gram in the college auditorium at 11:00 a.m. 'I his event will
commemorate the 107th anniversary of the founding of Howard
College.
Dr. Sudduth is a Howard ’29 alumnus with a record as an
outstanding football and basketball letterman.

ard he served Georgetown Col¬
lege, Kentucky; Goodwater,
Alabama, High School ; Ala¬
bama College. Montevallo;
Livingston State Teachers Col¬
lege ; and other Southern
schools in coaching and teach¬
ing capacities.
Dr. Sudduth received a Ph.D. de¬
gree from George Peabody College
in 1941 and was commissioned as a
naval officer the following year.
After three years service in the
armed forces he returned to Liv¬
ingston College as dean in Novem¬
ber. 1945. He assumed his present
duties as professor of physical edu¬
cation and director of the depart¬
ment of physical education at Pea¬
body in June. 1946.

■ Ministerial students from Howard
Icollege will fill the pulpits of the
1^42 Baptist churches of the Colum¬
bia Baptist Association, which sur¬
rounds Dothan, on Sunday, Janu¬
ary 30.
The ministerial students, accom¬
panied by Mr. Dick Wallace, direc¬
tor of religious activities, will leave
the campus tomorrow at 8:30 p.m.
for Houston County where they
will take part in a program de¬
signed to let the people of Ala¬
bama know more about the work
being done by the young preachers
studying at Howard.
The college administration
Is cooperating In this effort to
send a Howard student to every
Baptist Church in the state.
Rallies will be held Saturday
night at five churches strategically
located in the association. Each of
these meetings will be attended by
at least eight students who will
conduct services consisting of
choral singing, testimonies, Bible
quizzes, and sermons.
The rallies are scheduled to be
held at the Southside Church of
Dothan. Mount Gilead. Webb. Ash¬
ford. and Cottonwood.
